What happens after I submit my application?
After the 30 day grace period you will be sent an email letting you know whether you qualify or don't qualify to move on to the next step in the process. If you meet the minimum requirements, you will be scheduled on a later date to take the aptitude test. You can expect to receive a letter in the mail anywhere from 1-3 months after you receive the email.
What happens if I don't have my proof of Algebra and/or High School Diploma/GED when I apply?
You will have up to 30 days after the date you create your application to submit an official sealed transcript or a Certificate of Completion for the NJATC Algebra online course, AND High School Diploma/GED.
If you fail to meet the minimum requirements after 30 days, your application will be purged and you will need to reapply.
Can I apply for both Programs?
Yes, you can apply for the Residential and Inside Wireman Apprenticeship programs. However, if you do get selected for both programs, you can only pursue one.
If you apply for both programs and meet the minimum requirements, you are only required to take one aptitude test.
How do I find out when I am scheduled for an aptitude test?
You will receive a letter in the mail with a test date and time.
I have hours in the field already, can I still apply?
Yes, you can still apply.
What is the 4,000 hour rule?
If you can provide documentation that you have worked a minimum of 4,000 hours in the ELECTRICAL CONSTRUCTION TRADE (Residential, Commercial-Industrial), you may be given an oral interview. However, all exceptions to the testing policy must be approved by the Training Director.
What if I don’t pass the aptitude test on the first try?
You will have to wait six (6) months before you can reapply. After you reapply, you will be scheduled to retake the exam.
What happens once I am eligible for an interview?
Once you have met the minimum requirements and passed the aptitude test, now it is time for an interview with the Apprenticeship Committee. After an interview date has been selected, you will be notified by mail of your interview date and time.
What does my interview score and rank mean?
Your interview score is the average score (out of 100) given to you by the Apprenticeship Committee. That score is then entered onto our Ranking List. The Ranking List is the list that we use to pull applicants for employment. The higher your interview score, the higher you are on the Ranking List.
Example: Your score is a 94 and your rank is 5. That means that you would be the 5th person called out for employment.
Your score was 90.25 and your rank is 35. That means that you would be the 35th person called out for employment. However keep in mind that your rank can move up and down the Ranking List as people are placed for employment or as new applicants are interviewed. So, a rank of 35 could turn in to a rank of 17 or 150.
What should I do if my mailing address or phone number changes?
Click on the "Address Change" link in the main menu to update your contact information.
What can I do to increase my interview score?
You can request a re-interview provided that:
1) It has been 1 (one) year since your last interview.
2) You have completed 1000 hours of work or have taken 2 or more electrical related classes. (SEE BELOW)
3) The request is in writing. Email Judy@ejatc332.org to request re-interview.
Pursuant to California Division of Apprenticeship Standards, Section VII, Part D, paragraph 14:
Applicants wishing to re-interview must complete at least 1000 hours of work experience in the electrical trade related industry, or successfully complete at least TWO or more post-secondary trade related classes.
We will accept verifiable, documented 1000 hours with any C-10 contractor, hours in Residential electrical construction, NECA approved Sound and Communication installation, Photovoltaic installation, or underground electrical installation with a C-10 contractor.
Acceptable classes will also include Algebra and higher math as well as any electrical construction technology courses.
